During a period of social activity among
several family groups of killer whales, a young sea lion
is curious and swims with the whales. The head of the
sea lion is out of the water on the right side of the
whale's fin. Normally sea lions are prey of the whales,
but the killer whales were not interested in feeding and
instead were very playful and the sea lion may have sensed
that and joined in.
